A mid-life awakening

I think I first started thinking about the concept of 30 seasons this spring while photographing the Cherry Trees at Brookside Gardens. This trip was the first photoshoot of the year where I went out and did some serious photography. I packed up early, got there for sunrise and had a great morning of photography. I was also under some serious pressure at my day job and this was a welcome escape.

This past June I recently turned 42 and I have been seriously thinking about my life for the last couple of months. Some may think that this is way too early to start having a mid-life crisis, but I don't see it like that. I see this as a mid-life awakening and as my friends and family know, I hate being late and I'm usually early.

While I was shooting the cherry trees I started thinking, I really love photographing the various seasons in my local area. Autumn is probably my favorite and Spring comes in as a very close second. As I was shooting my mind wandered and I thought "how many more seasons do I have left?" I was not trying to be morbid, it was just a curious thought that popped into my mind that day.

I have heard of many people that are still able to get out and about well into their 80's. Personally I would be very happy to be able to hike and shoot various seasonal locations when I reach my 70's. If I can still produce great shots into my 80's or 90's than that is even better. I have since coined the idea (or concept) that I have 30 seasons left. Each year that passes can either be another great experience or another lost opportunity. Once I started to assign a numerical value to what I have left, I started to feel the urgency to do more.

This is one reason why I started this blog. I want to record my ideas and progress and also be able to pass on the lessons I have learned along the way. There will probably be a large focus on photography, but life lessons may run the gamut from family, careers, and investing.

I hope you enjoy the ride.

Website Plans

Plans within plans are underway for the future of this website. I have been doing a great deal of thinking about this website and I'm close to figuring things out. One big change is that I will be moving this blog to a new location on this website, or another website entirely.

So please stay tuned.
