Carved Screen

I have been trying to take a decent picture of this carved Chinese screen for months. Now that I have a tripod I can finally take a natural light picture with a long exposure. We recently bought three of these at a local Antique dealer that specializes in Chinese imports (I can spend hours in that warehouse.)

Twigs

I'm back at work today. We had a nice relaxing Thanksgiving weekend and saw lots of movies. I continued to take pictures throughout the house and should have some good ones to post for the next week or so.

Jade Lady

This jade statue currently sits in my office at home. This room receives a great deal of morning sun.
I inherited this jade statue from my Great Aunt Gladys. She made several trips to the orient and collected some great pieces.

Candleabra

This weekend I'm going to take my camera and tripod and take pictures of stuff that is in the house. I'm just trying to test some photographic ideas that have been on my mind for a while.
Michele bought this candelabra in Baja. You can ask her to tell you the story of getting this thing home.

Happy Thanksgiving

This Thanksgiving it will be just the three of us. We plan on eating our turkey meal for lunch and heading to the movies later this afternoon.
Happy Thanksgiving to you.

Tripod Practice

This weekend I finally purchased a tripod for my photographic hobby. The old one I had broke several years ago, right around the time that Emma was two. Tonight I took about 20 low light pictures for a test run. None of them were remarkable, but I guess this one may be blog worthy. I hope to be able to experiment some more this weekend.
I ended up purchasing a Sunpak PlatinumPlus 5800D. The only reason I choose this one is because it was a) available at BestBuy since I had a gift certificate, b) It was the lightest model they had, c) it also happened to be the cheapest (which was covered by the gift certificate.)
After the trial run, it seems like it will fit my needs nicely.

Just like the Vietnam memorial, there are items left at the World War II memorial for lost friends and loved ones.

Washington Monument

Michele's parents came to visit last week and we went to the Capital Mall to visit the World War II memorial. Here is a shot I took of the Washington monument near the memorial.

Cattle Drive

When I drive home from work I pass a couple of cattle farms. It's always one of the hightlights of my drive home.
This picture was taken as I drove home the other day, window rolled down, point-n-shoot without looking, all while driving about 40 mph.

Fall Trail

Last weekend Emma and I hit the Magruder trail at the height of the fall season. I took about 50 pictures and many of them look great. The problem is that it is not always easy to find an interesting way to compose the shot. Just because there are lots of gold, orange, and red leaves doesn't mean it will make a good picture. This weekend I will post the two pictures that I like the best from the shoot.
