Battle of the Bulge
When I migrated my website to SquareSpace, many of the photos on my old site were not brought over during the transition. I’m planning to bring over some of these old photos to the new website as blog posts. With the recent updates to Adobe Lightroom I have a new tool set to work with as I take another look at these past photos.
For over 30 years a yearly Battle of the Bulge reenactment was held at Fort Indiantown Gap, PA during the January/February timeframe. The Army cancelled the annual event in 2018.
The Battle of the Bulge, fought from December 16, 1944, to January 25, 1945, was Nazi Germany’s last major offensive on the Western Front in World War II. Aiming to split Allied forces and capture Antwerp, the Germans launched a surprise attack through the Ardennes. Though they initially broke through, Allied resistance—especially at Bastogne—stopped the advance. The failed offensive cost Germany heavily and hastened the end of the war in Europe.
I attended the reenactment at Fort Indiantown Gap in 2014 and 2015. Both times I attended we lucked out with some fresh snow on the ground to give us some realism for the event. In 2015 the tempratures were in the teens and closely matched the enviornment during the world war II battle.
I decided to apply a black and white treatment on the majority of these photos. This is a small selection of the photos I took during these events.
