Glacier Bay

Margerie Glacier

On the sixth day of our Alaskan cruise, we entered Glacier Bay National Park, one of the highlights of the entire trip. As we sailed deeper into the bay, the scenery became increasingly dramatic. Towering mountains, snow-covered peaks, and icy waters surrounded us in every direction.

Our destination was Marjorie Glacier, located at the end of the bay. The ship slowly maneuvered near the face of the glacier, giving everyone plenty of time to take in the incredible view. The glacier's blue ice and rugged textures were unlike anything I had ever seen.

The scale of the landscape is difficult to capture in photographs. The glacier stretches hundreds of feet into the air, while the surrounding mountains rise thousands of feet above the bay. It is one of those places that makes you feel very small in the best possible way.

Here are some of my favorite photographs from our visit to Marjorie Glacier.

Margerie Glacier’s Blue Ice

Many passengers gathered on the bow of the ship to view the glacier, but we found our favorite location was one deck lower on the Promenade Deck. It was much less crowded and brought us closer to the waterline. From there, the glacier felt even more massive, and the experience was far more immersive. Being closer to the water also provided a better perspective on the ice-filled bay and the sheer scale of the glacier towering above us.
